The Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America, typically reaching heights of 20 to 30 feet with a spread of 25 to 35 feet. It is characterized by its distinctive magenta to reddish-pink flowers, which emerge in early spring directly on bare branches before leaf-out. This early flowering contributes to local ecosystems by providing an important nectar source for pollinators at a time when few other plants are in bloom. The heart-shaped leaves transition from bronze to green through the growing season and turn vibrant yellow in autumn, adding multiseasonal visual interest.

The species is adapted to USDA hardiness zones 4 through 9, demonstrating tolerance for a range of soil conditions, including clay, loam, and sand, provided adequate drainage is present. It prefers full sun to partial shade, with optimal flowering in full sun environments. The Eastern Redbud exhibits moderate drought tolerance once established, requiring approximately 20 to 30 inches
